Well, I may have forgotten a few important dates, but August 9 is supposed to have been the day of Caesar's great victory over Pompey near Pharsalus in Greece.
It was one of those occasions when Caesar fought against great odds. Pompey had him outnumbered at least two to one, and had won the previous confrontation in Dyrrachium. His officers and troops were supposedly in good morale (the senators arguing about the eventual spoils) and better fed and supplied; he chose the day and the exact place.
Yet Caesar won.
