THE LAKOTA WINTER COUNTS
A winter count is a large piece of hide, cloth, or paper covered in discrete drawings, each one representing an anual memorial event.
This Smithsonian online exhibit just won a Webby award, the Oscar of the Internet.
Ten wintercounts span from the 18th to 19th centuries.
