Salve Voluptua! Interesting topic, If you read Biblical Archaeology Review, they did an article on the Moabite Stele and Chemosh several years ago.

You mentioned from the Jewish Encyclopedia that:

The etymology of "Chemosh" is unknown.

It was my understanding that Chemosh, (pronounced Ke'mosh) meant approximately 'The Subduer'.

Hitchcock's Bible Names defines Chemosh as "Taking Away".
