I am glad to accept Calpurnia's gracious waiver, especially as I think that her Appian translation's attribute of "palm" in this context is more likely to have been metaphorical than tangible. The word is "aristeia", which can mean simply "reward", but more usually something akin to "merit" or "honour".

As far as I can make out, the military "coronae" were not so much crowns as wreaths, and there were a number of them: triumphalis (for a triumph), muralis (first up and over a wall), castrensis or vallaris (first to force his way into a camp or over a rampart or ditch), navalis (extreme bravery during a naval engagement), etc.

    In connection with the last,

a] On what occasion was Caesar personally involved in a battle at sea the outcome of which was a spectacular victory?

b] On what occasion was Caesar personally involved in a sea battle which was conclusively lost?
