I'm Tanaquil Sergius, one of the Arbitri Elegantiae of this group. Together with Flavia Xanthippos, I take care of all things concerned with Petronian studies and scholarship and with the leadership of this group.
In 1999, I joined Ancient Sites, after one of my RL colleagues, Wiebe Koopmans, in AS known as Wiebe Sempronius, had pointed me in that direction. I immediately liked the concept of Ancient Sites and joined several groups. I also became a patron there. In March 2000, AS was history and it was only through the Ancient Vines and PanHistoria, that I found my way back to the old places, by browsing the Net on "ancient world" and finding the newly founded site "Ancient Worlds" there. It was late 2001, when I re-entered the world of virtual ancient interaction, under the new name of Ancient Worlds, but with many old friends still present!
What I haven't done that much on Ancient Sites, but here ever so much more, is creating groups to keep the flow of imformation and participation going and thus creating a means to store and share information about things ancient. My specializations are Classical Languages and Literature and Archaeology, especially the archaeology of the Etruscans. It is here that I founded a few groups related to these themes and issues.
In The SCHOLA LINGVAE LATINAE, an online Latin school created by me and currently lead by a triumvirate of classicists from the USA and The Netherlands, I am a Praeceptrix, a sort of "principal" (not to be taken that seriously, *s*).
In the Hellenike Paideia, on online school for Ancient Greek, created and lead by me, I am a didaskalos, a teacher, and currently conducting an online course of Ancient Greek for HP members, like in the Schola Linguae Latinae, by the way.
In ETRVRIA, a group for the study and discussion of all things Etruscan, I am a Zilath (i.e. "leading administrator", sometimes referred to in the Latin language as "praetor" or "consul"), together with Louisa Agis.
My newest created group is this one, The Satyricon Society, dealing with the study of the novel "Satyricon" by C. Petronius Arbiter (as he is often referred to) and also with the writing of likewise stories. So there is something for everyone, seriousness and fun!
I am involved in quite a few groups more, as a member or a coleader/editor. It's great fun!
And to officially conclude things: since January 2004 I have been one of the Scribes of the Roman World.
More about me can be found in my administrative description online (please, scroll down).
The wonderful pictures I illustrated this post with are partially made by me ("Tanaquil Sergius of Rome" and "The Satyricon Society") and by Aya Etana (the SLL, HP and ETRVRIA plaques).
