Since you used my phrase about cheerleaders and den mothers, I suppose your post was directed at least in part toward me.
I've never said that AS was dull or pathetic. Hell, I had tons of great time there. SPQR was never my bag, but people I secretly worship, like FeAudrey, loved it, so I never said anything.
Nevertheless, I think that when people comment about SPQR, there opinions shouldn't be vaguely condemned. You must admit that a "note to Sullas" containing a panegyric that concludes that he should "not pursue that line of thought" is catty at least, and veiled threat at worst.
I don't even know Sullas so I wasn't particularly defending him. But people can't speak their minds without being trolls, or egomaniacs, or naysayers? Sheesh!
I myself have never been much of a joiner, and I've always resented seeing the border collies of the world trying to keep their little herds in line.
If border collies can snip and yap, why can't a wolf growl?
I sincerely respect you, Senex, and do not wish to contend with you in a nasty way. I hope we can both be allowed to muse aloud with no hard feelings.
