    I would enquire with the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY (the Met) - with the Department of Antiquities, to be exact - for advice on whom to ask. Send them a good, enlarged photo of the intaglio...I did this with for an old pewter tea caddy I have, and they pointed me in the right direction.

    I'm sure all major museums in other countries could help as well.
