Brutus had always been aware Cassius was enormously insecure, but this level of mistrust and insecurity was inexcusable in Brutus' high honor code.
"Cassius," he began with an unnatural intense calm that hinted to some greater ire within, "Though you are my brother in the boundaries of law, I am finding my temper to short to make excuses for you as I have done in the past." After taking a breath, Brutus let the entirety of Cassius' words take full affect.
"But to lie to me for your own purposes, pester the ones I bear great affection for with notes of a particularly scandelous nature, and more so, hurt Porcia with these horrid and cruel insinuations." His voice rose somewhat, and there was a contolled tremmor in his expression.
"I am shocked that you would have the boldness to do such things and then speak to me on terms of friendship when in fact we are better suited as enemies!" He saw in Cassius' expression a terror that seemed to sprout from Brutus' growing vocal intensity.
"But, it is I that am the fool. That I would trust you, beleive you when you attempted to turn me against Porcia and even my own sister, your beloved wife! There is no honor in your actions, the end does not always justify the means Cassius!" Brutus finished, drinking a genrous sip of wine to calm his nerves.
