Diantha, thank you for expressing yourself so well and so along the lines of the post I was about to write! >grin<

Calpurnia, I agree that healthy competition is a wonderful thing, and that scribes have the right to enter & win competitions. I am also for a site-wide vote (although I understand the logistics of this could be mind-boggling!).

I have another comment to add to this debate. I don’t see it being healthy for scribes to be pitted against each other in this way. We all poured ourselves into creating the best event possible. I can totally see your side to this Herky, I really can! But I have a problem with making all our hard work into a competition without our input. I didn’t know about the Best in Fest awards until after planning for Hellas was well on its way. Maybe I just failed to read something that talked about it, but I was surprised when I saw the thread for nominations.

Could a compromise be in order here? Herky mentioned the Best Homes competition...maybe we could model the Best in Fest awards after it. People enter their homes into competition for Best Homes...could we do something similar with Best in Fest? That way everyone’s work that is being judged knows it’s being judged and they’re okay with it! And those that don't want to compete don't have to.
