Good Evening To Everyone,
Edmund Tudor, the 1st Earl of Richmond was born about 1430, as the son of Sir Owen Tudor and Catherine de France, at the Much Hadham Palace, in Hertfordshire, England. Catherine of Valois (otherwise listed as Catherine de France) was born on October 27, 1401, in Paris, France, as the daughter of King Charles VI of France and Isabeau de Baviere. In 1420, she was given in marriage to King Henry V of England, as part og the settlement folowing the Battle of Agincourt. The only issue of this marriage was the future King Henry VI of England. After King Henry V's death in 1422, Catherine was effectively exiled from court, suspicion falling on her nationality. The regents kept her away from her child, and she turned for comfort to Owen Tudor, a Welch courtier, who would becomign the foudning father of the Tudor dynasty. Although Catherine was forbidden by a new law to marry again, there was a general lack of interest in her on the part of the authorities which enabled her to form a liaison with, and possibly to marry secretly (but if so, it was legally invalid), Owen Tudor. She gave birth to at least four children by Owen Tudor.
The daughter of Catherine of Valois and Owen Tudor died young. Their son, Owen Tudor became a monk. Their other two sons, Edmund Tudor, the 1st Earl of Richmond, and Jasper Tudor, the 1st Earl of Bedford, were to play an important role in the future othe English monarchy.
Catherine of Valois, the mother of Edmund Tudor died on January 03, 1437, in London, England, and was buried in Westminster Abbey. Her husband, or lover, Owen Tudor, lived on until 1461, when he was executed by the Yorkists following the Battle of Mortimer's Cross. Both Edmund Tudor and Jasper Tudor were given earldoms by King Henry VI after Catherine's death. Edmund was invested as a knight on December 15, 1449. He gained the title of the 1st Earl of Richmond on November 23, 1452.
Edmund Tudor, the 1st Earl of Richmond married Lady Margaret Beaufort on November 01, 1455, at Bletsoe Castle, Befordshire. Through her marriage, Margaret Beaufort gained the title of "Countess of Richmond" on November 01, 1455. As of that marriage date of November 01, 1455, her married name was Tudor. Lady Margaret (Beaufort) Tudor was twelve years old at the time of her marriage to Edmund Tudor. Lady Margaret Beaufort was the daughter of Sir John Beaufort, the 1st Duke of Somerset and Margaret Beauchamp.
Lady Margaret (Beaufort) Tudor became pregant in the following year of 1456. However, with the beginnings of the Wars of the Roses, Edmund Tudor, the 1st Earl of Richmond, was captured by the Yorkist Herbert family. They imprisoned him at Carmarthen Castle in south Wales, where he caught the plague. He died on November 03, 1456 at Carmarthen Castle, in Carmarthenshire, Wales. He was buried at Church of the Greyfriars, Carmarthen, Carmarthenshire, Wales.
Sir Edmund Tudor, the 1st Earl of Richmond, and Lady Margaret (Beaufort) Tudor had one child from this marriage, Henry VII Tudor, the King of England, who was born on January 28, 1457, and died on April 21, 1509.
