    Foreign Allstars of the Orient Neighborhood Block Parties
    Saturday Feb 5th, Monday Feb 7th, Wednesday Feb 9th, Friday Feb 11th, and Sunday Feb 13th.

    Every other night during our festival, we will be hosting neighborhood block parties. These informal gatherings will be held on the public boards of our neighborhoods commencing in Japan on the 5th and followed by Korea on the 7th, China on the 9th, Cambodia on the 11th, and India on the 13th. Watch for links to these events on the Comm Panel during the festival. On the 13th in India, we will be holding our closing ceremonies. Come help us celebrate and witness the awarding of prizes for festival-long events. See the Daily News Report for further details.

    First Annual Live Haiku Challenge
    Friday Feb 4th, 19:00 AWT

    Do you enjoy haiku? It was a popular passtime during the Orient launch. But this year we thought we would be more challenging. The Ten Philosophers Haiku group is sponsoring a real time haiku challenge. Join the fun as your emcee, Lalita Ashoka, announces the topics. Then see if you can write a haiku on that subject within the time allotted. Judges will be on hand to award the points and the winner will be announced at the end of the evening. It all takes place on the Falling Cherry Blossoms Haiku thread in the Orient.

    The Great Bean Hunt
    Saturday Feb 5th thru the end of the festival

    Beans are scattered for luck and to drive away evil influences during Setsubun. Our beans will be scattered throughout the Orient and your task it to find as many as you can. There are 30. If you find 15 of them, you'll be awarded a lucky charm to protect your home for the next year. If you are the one to find the most beans, you'll be awarded the Seven Gods of Luck plaque...even more luck for your new year! Please remember to email the URLs don't post them...unless you want to help the competition!

    The Lantern Decorating Contest
    Monday, Feb 7th - noon on Thursday, Feb 10th. [NOTICE: The deadline has been extended to noon on Saturday, Feb 12th.]

    You've decorated trees in Celtia and amphorae in Hellas, now decorate a lantern in China. In honor of Lantern Festival, we're offering a contest in which you can either find your own lantern to display or decorate one of ours. Join the fun at the Lantern Festival Contests thread any time starting Monday.

    Bop Nian
    Tuesday Feb 8th thru the end of the festival

    The infamous Nian is here again! It's Lunar Festival and Nian is threatening to terrorize the citizens of AncientWorlds Orient. Bring your hammers, cymbal, drums and gongs...oh, and a few fireworks if you've got them...and prepare to Bop Nian until he leaves! The event will take place in Sankira's Gameroom in Yoshiwara, Edo, Japan.



    Art of AncientWorlds Members Exhibition
    Wednesday, Feb 9th thru March 1st

    The Art of AncientWorlds group is pleased to present AAW's first Members Art Exhibition. Celebrate the new year by enjoying the art of your fellow citizens, patrons, scribes, and demis. There will be drawings, paintings, graphics, and photography. Of course, the artists expect to wow us all, so should you feel inspired to ooh and aah over the art, leave a message at the exhibition thread.



    Senex Caecilius's Lantern Puzzles
    Thursday, Feb 10th thru the end of the festival

    Senex Caecilius has visited the Orient and created a series of what he calls: Lantern Puzzles. The event will be held on the Lantern Festival Contests thread beginning on Thursday. Since Senex had to return to Rome for a few days and isn't due back until mid-day, he will be posting the puzzles sometime the afternoon of the 10th. Details of this cryptic challenge will be posted on the Lantern Festival Contests thread.

    India's Spring Festival will include music and revelling, a tour of India, and many other fun activities. Details of the events will be posted closer to event time. See the Daily News Report for further details.
