Through dress, people are immediately recognized to be of a certain status, whether it be religious, professional, or military. Dress often signifies the way that people are identified in a community.
With some exceptions, particularly the dress of the soldiers and priests (along with the dress for ceremonial or special occasions), most garments were created primarily for practical coverage reasons. Most clothes were worn to accommodate the weather conditions, and people were typically much less concerned with aesthetics."
