My latest tidbit is "discovering" that Alfred the Great's erstwhile Danish enemy king Guthrum ("Godrum") was christened Athelstan: I have read the ASC fairly extensively and missed this little detail, or at least don't remember having noticed it before.
This is a good example of the Danes submitting to the Christian faith once they were established in England; there had not been a more tenacious foe of Wessex than Guthrum; but he became a Christian and the last three years of Alfred's reign were peaceful.
