    I think, but I might be wrong, that even Gothic left more traces in the Italian language (I have a list somewhere, I might post it in Kunjaradzoz). Lombard words remain in Italian toponyms, especially those starting with "fara". And of course the name itself "Lombardia", now a region and once a much wider territory in Northern Italy. I was recently reading about St. Ambrose that while a layman he had been governor of "Liguria", which meant Northwestern Italy. I was surprised for a moment, before remembering that the Lombards hadn't settled there yet. :D
