Settlers or conquerors? Eirikr, living several centuries later, asks the same questions, and marvels at the turning of the wheel of fortune as he sees Welshman and Saxon fighting together against Dane in a land littered with Roman ruins. Who is the conquered, and who the conqueror now? How will peace ever conquer all? And who is that Norman looking over at our island?
