is the pronounciation in comparision to which Greek island the Greek speaker is from?

For example, in Cyprus, the word for 'and' is pronounced 'je', but in mainland Greece it's pronounced 'ke'.

This happens a lot in Cyprus, the words are Greek, but they're pronounced very differently than they are in Greece.
