    LOL - I get the impression that, at least from about 62 onwards, the Boni rump were trying so hard to put Caesar in his place, keep him down, get him attached for debt, trash his provinces (they couldn't do anything about his getting elected, which he always seemed to do effortlessly) . . . they must have felt they were fighting a curtain, bat it down in one place, it pops up again!

    Which, I think, accounts for their hatred. There's nothing more hate-inspiring than someone who takes all you can give them and keeps on winning.

    I remember a phrase from McCullough's books, although I don't know if it's purely hers or she's summarizing a source . . . that Caesar's life-strand was so strong, anyone who moved against it was frayed to pieces, not Caesar.
