I have not looked into genetics too much myself but there is no doubt that the Turks left some type of inprint in the Balkans. My wife is an American mutt like me but she has a good portion of Croatian ancestry and is fairly dark with an olive complexion. She can easily pass for one of the daughters who work for their father at the local greek restraunt. When my first daughter was born we would go in there and she would call all the waitresses momma:)
