I just realized, February is the month I will be in the Philippines and therefore most likely no where near a computer and I won't be back till march. So Blessed Be early for the Imbolc.
Hmm...I do remember a little about it btw. One is that this year, according to my Witch's Calendar, it falls on February 2nd this year. For some tidbits:
That is also Groundhog's day *LOL*, Falls under the Waning moon and according to my Wicca Almanac the color for this day would be Brown. The moon signe will be Libra and the moon phase will be in the third quarter. The moon will enter Scorpio at 1:51 am.
It is one of the 4 great fire festivals and pays homage to Brighid, daughter of the Dagda. According to Lady Sabrina - author of Celebrating Wiccan Spirituality,
"She was also originally, a fire and sun goddess and considered the embodiment of poetry, inspiration and divination. It was her association with fire that linked her to the hearth and home, as well as to the art of smithcraft."
She also happnens to be a fertility goddess, not surprising really, if you consider that it takes a 'fertile' imaginaion for poetry. *LOL*
Imbolc, again according to Lady Sabrina, means "in the belly," indicating the beginings of new life and it is the time of the first flowing of ewe's milk, since it is also the time they give birth to lambs.
Come to think of it, I read somewhere that Imbolc meant something like Oi melc (sp?) which meant sheeps milk in Celtic (I'll have to find that book again). So basically read - associated with fertility, creativity and newness.
Ok that's it for me. I work tomorrow so I need to go.
My reference for the info on Imbolc was from a book:
Celebrating Wiccan Spirituality: Spells, Sacred Rites, and Folklore for Each Day of the Year" by Lady Sabrina, with the direct quote from pp 40-41, as well as the indirect stuff.
