The Irish have a similar entity that is still thought of as a Goddess...the Cailleach. Basically a nasty old hag but she is not always so bad just as BY is not. In modern Irish her name means witch or hag.

So is the Baba Yaga a goddess or not? Not sure, being a goddess does not always mean being good but it surely means being impervious to death which I do believe the Baba Yaga to be....so even if not a goddess she is made of the same stuff as one.

I have not read up on her lore much so that is something I will have to look into further.
