Pilip was 23 when, on the plain
of Monastir, near Lake Okhrida on the western borders of Macedon,
he won a great battle against Bardylis, king of the fierce tribes
of Illyria. Three quarters of the soldiers of Bardylis lay dead
and Philip dictated terms. One of them was the hand in marriage
of the daughter of Bardylis, Audata. She was his first legal
wife and the mother of his first daughter, Kynane.
