You cannot be implying that Caesar was only driven by a wish to emulate Alexander, can you?
Just because he commented that Alexander had conquered the world at an age when he, caesar, had done nothing extraordinary yet (and by Jove, he already had), this does not mean that he looked up to Alexander in everything, or that his major concern was to follow in his footsteps.
Caesar wanted to be Caesar, I think.
