The Left Eye of Ra It had been passed down in the Rameses family for generations upon generations. It was said that as long as the 'Eye' was in their possesion the family would prosper and no harm could befall the head of the family.
Now the 'Eye' was missing. It was one of the very first things Reylari Rameses asked about when she came to Alexandria to claim her estate. She had been told that the family jewels, her father's will, and other valubles were kept in the safe in her father's study. Only her father, and the most trusted of the family servants had the combination to the safe. When the safe was opened for the reading of the will, all seemed to be in order, but 'The Eye' was missing. Farouke, her father's servant was quite alamed about this and commented on it immediately.
Reylari had in her possesion an old frayed yellow photograph of her parents together. Her mother was wearing the 'Eye' a magnificent pendant of gold, lapis, and carnelian. Reylari had always been fascinated by it. An ancient queen of Egypt had presented it to a long distant relative, and it had been passed down ever sense. Now it was missing. Faouoke insited that her father never removed it from the safe, nor did he. They had searched the house; a ruin, in and of it's self, and found nothing. The only servants in the house were Farouke, and his wife Fatatida. Their parents, and those befor them, had served this same family and lived in the palatial palace for multi generations.
Reylari was appaled by the wretched condition things had come to.
Her father was known as one of the richest men in the world, why would he opt to live in squalor? She asked the aged servants this very question. They had no answere, but said that their own living conditions were most comfortable. There was no electricity, no hot running water, and no indoor pluming. Fireplaces were the only source of heat, and cooking was done on a wood stove. It was as if the 20th century had not come into existence yet. Farouke also said that two years prior to his death he father had dismised all the other servants.
"When was the last time you saw the 'Eye' she asked both Farouke and Fatatida. "Only two days befor his tragic death your father showed it to us, and returned it to the safe. He said, "As long as this is here in my possesion, no harm can come to me". Only two days later he was dead. A tragic fall from his horse durring a polo match. At least he died doing what he loved most."
"Lady Reylari, for your own protection, you must find the 'Eye of Ra'. We will help you all we can." Fatatida was most insistent upon this. Lady_ if you can not find the 'Eye' within a year you will meet a most untimely death. The 'Eye' is for your protection. We have seen how it works. It is your destiny to keep safe the 'Eye of Ra' and preserve the dynasty of Rameses.
"I am the last of a line. There are no other heirs, this will not be a matter of contention?"
Fatatida replies, "Lady you are the only one. You are the seventh generation, born female. It is you who must revive the line."
"I have no political aspirations, I tell them. The Egytian people would not accept an American as a queen. "You do not understand 'Lady' it is not the government you have an authority for, it is a spiritual demension of time."
I am stunned, I do not know what to think, but strangely this does make sense to me. Ever since being a small child I have had vivid dreams of Egypt. One is always re-occuring, I am walking down a long hypostyle hall. A queen is seated on a golden couch, but it is not a throne. I am about to bow down, and she stands and puts both hands on my shoulders. We stare into each other's eyes, and exchange knowlege. Then I wake up. I face the day as if nothing unusual at all happened.
I am only twenty-three years old. I am and rich and beautiful. I am to young to die. Not yet. I must find 'The Eye of Ra.'
