I think killing off - or hurting - Dumbledore would be a great plot twist.
You all have hit on some great ideas here. It is supposedly Harry's capacity for love which gives him his power - and he certainly loves Dumbledore.
As to the parallels with Star Wars, it does make sense. Oooh! Now I am getting antsy waiting for it.
