Long ago, I lived in the palace below. In those days I was the nurse maid for the royal daughters, the princess Ariadne and the princess Phaedra. These were the daughters of the 1st wife of the then 'King Minos'. 'Queen Phaspae' died not long after the princesses ran away. The older one was always my favorite, such a kind hearted girl, never one to create a fuss. Now those sisters were all of ten years apart, but the younger one was just a smaller version of the older. They looked so much alike, except for the age difference they could have been twins. In disposition they were nothing alike. That little one, she was very demanding, and I should know; for it was my duty to cater to her.
The older sister loved the littel one, and when they left the older took the younger one with her.
Now the wind is blowing chill, the flowers are all gone and the leaves fall from the trees. In the dark clouds of the night sky, I look up to see the face of the moon, and I see my child stare at me. Then I know, and I say to myself. Go down to the palace and find that poor girl, for at long last the prodigal has come home.
