After years of wandering the world, I Theseus, the 'Prince of Athens' return to the sacred shores of Delos. It is a cosmopolitan sight that greets my eyes. Few here would recognise me, I have been away for so long. It is I who first suggested building a temple to honor Apollo here. Now look how the place has grown. I fear Delos is now the envy of both Sparta and Athens. Now they want to 'purify' the island. No one will be allowed to either be born or die here. This most certianly will curb the population explosion. How long will it take them to turn a metropolis that thrives to a ghost town?
I am walking along the Sacred Way looking for all the world like just another tourist making a pilgrimage. Ahead lies the Sacred Lake where the wild swans and geese swim. It is all fresh water fed by a spring. It may as well be an oasis on the desert.
I am deep in thought pondering what will become of it all when suddenly someone taps me on the shoulder. "Theseus is that you? My god's man! I thought you were dead? You droped off the face of the earth!"
I turn in amazement to see none other than the great Ali! "I am just as suprised to see you, and it looks like you have been doing some shopping?" Ali has a young woman in tow, obviously a newly acquired slave. The last I had seen him we were shipwreaked off a mysterious legendary isle. I went off to scout around, and the rest is a very long story. Ali is seven feet tall. All eyes are on us. "Ali, my friend, I think we are attracting to much attention here. Can you and your companion join me for dinner tonight? I am staying at the House of the Mask, it is near the theater. We agree to meet for dinner at eight.
It is a small world, I think as I continue on my way.
