This brings to mind something that happened between me and a friend about a year ago.
I mentioned my interest in Alexander the Great, and he said "Do you know that he was gay?"
Now, I'm sure you all understand the many reasons why that's a stupid question so I won't bother trying to list them. But I would like to rant about it for a moment, so please bear with me.
Not only was he assuming I was anti-gay, he was attempting to take away an interest from me. What was he hoping, that I'd say "Oh, he was? Guess I'm not interested in him after all, then." Not to mention, as someone who is interested in Alexander I'm bound to know a little more about his possible sexual orientation than someone who actually knows very little about him. In general, I think when a friend tells you about an interest you shouldn't immediately try to find something wrong with it (unless it's something that could harm them or other people).
Anyhow, I guess the whole thing bothered me more than it had to because that was basically the start of the end of our friendship. We didn't know each other that well, but we were really good friends... I don't remember how that was possible, but it was.
