ANOTHER DEAD TRIBUNUS
After the corpse of Tribunus Visolus has been found behind the ara of Templum
Herculis, the Plebs is in a state of ferment. It is undoubt that. if the investigation
carried by the censores would show it is a political crime, a class riot would
be likely to start. For now, apart some criminal actions, the situation is
still under control, maybe for the great funeral Tribunus Longinus organized
for his colleague.
Basing on rumours, two can be the reasons led to kill Visolus: his political
activity or some dirty business. In both cases, it appear the murder has been
well planned in advance. Also Visolus bodyguards are disappeared and somebody
is insinuating they has been bribed to kill the Tribunus.
Meanwhile the minimum votes required for the majority of Collegium Tribunorum
is lowered from 6 to 5. This would make a great difference for the future vetoes.
Sisenna conquerred Berosaba
At the first assault Cnaeus Ulpius Sisenna overcome
the Zionist city of Berosaba, despite the unexpected arrival of a Galilean
detachment. No one enemy survived
to the clash. The legionaries has been allowed to plunder the city. The 4,500
survived citizens of Berosaba are now caught, Sisenna has to decide is Raze
to the ground the city and sold they in slavery.
Gossippers has given a bonus to Cnaeus Ulpiu, a new nickname: Expugno. But
the more perfidous are saying that is a little war, so they laught saying:
Cnaeus Ulpius Pugnilla (little pugna).
Quintus Fabius is pushing Gallaeci to north
The quick redeployment along the
Tarraconensis border has forced the Gallaecian army to move north. Legio X
and XII are marching towards Iturissa to prevent
the barbarians from fire also that city. Legionaries are moderately satisfied,
at least they are to fight in a better known area, more close to civilized
cities.
It is not yet clear if Gallaecians has obtained support from Aquitania Gallian
tribes.
Faesulae seems abandoning the rebels
Once liberated the colony of Pistoria in
a great assault, Consul Hibernicus is moving to Faesulae. Basing on the latests
reports from Etruria, Faesulae
has closed its doors to the rebels escaped from Pistoria. If Consul Hibernicus
will be able to catch that last group of rebels, it is expectable the Etrurian
rebellion would be settled soon.
Lusitania is peceful once again
Once captured the major part of rebelling
slaves, praetor Decimus Claudius has restored the order both in Scallabis and
Olisipo. Hispania Ulterior is
once again peaceful.
(For those who own estates in Olisipo and Scallabis: remember you have to buy
new slaves for your estates.)
Asiaticus adavances in Mauretania
With a single assault, Marcus Claudius Asiaticus
has broken the Mauretanian defences at Rapidum bridge. A little battle for
a great award: the road to
Mauretania core is open now. The wide valley of the Salsum river is a perfect
stage for Roman hoplites and allows to reach almost any city of Bocchutania
(western Mauretania). It is not yet clear what’s the Mauretanian strategy
and why they didn’t deployed a strong garrison at Rapidum.
No further raids reported from Cirta, but the valley south from the Aurarius
Ardus Saltus is no more under Numidian control.
Revolution in Rhodus
Rumours about a coup d’etat are arriving from Rhodus.
It seems the people rebelled to the local oligarchy, forming a new republican
government.
More precise news are expected soon.
City News
Never Roma seen a so large and rich burial for a plebeian, surely the mausoleum
will remain as evidence of how many rich a plebeian can become in Roma. The
plebs approve the effort LUL made to honour his dead colleagues but many capiti
censi are wishpering they would be more pleased by a public donation... with
the tummy filled they would remember better.
Many usurers and debtors are very anxious for the Vaecilius-Tuberus trial.
Whatever would be the verdict, it will constitute a precedent for future eveniences.
Particularry are usurers who are more worried about the trial.
Prodigia
A very heavy stonestorm broken over the Urbs. Several buldings has been hit
by lightnings, between them the ara of Templum Herculis (damage 1600 D) and
