Most of what I know about Cato the Elder, I know because of his constant attempts to create laws that kept the ladies firmly in theiri place, and his insufferable (to a woman) notes on how you control and guide the wee silly things; sexist doesn't cover it. (Yes, yes, I am quite aware of the general Roman male vs. female, but REALLY, Cato Censor is going it, rather!)
What I have always thought to do, but have never done, is to try to see what of Cato's writings are published and/or what is available on the Web. Is anyone else on top of this? At the same time, the old fart (marrying your slave girl when you're in you're '70's and she's in her twenties!) has a certain rough charm, just because he is SO completely sure he is right.
One of - I suspect! - many traits his distant heir picked up!
