    Salinator and Neros' victory over Hasdrubal is one of my favourites behind Hannibals' at Cannae. Neros' march and flanking manoeuvre were prime examples of how ingenuitive Romans could be. The second half of the Second Punic War brought several Hannibal-esque commanders and not just Scipio Africanus.

    Men like Q. Fabius Maximus may have saved Rome from defeat but men like Nero, who were more pro-active and willing to take risks, were the reason Rome defeated Hannibal and Carthage
