In the case of Phaistos palace, we have the first indication of the existence of an early palace through the archaeological evidence concerning architectural remains. These architectural features are namely come from the west wing of the palace which was constructed by ashlal and its architecture was quite complex. This early palatial structure it is dated in the middle Minoan I b (MMIb).
However, as far as the palace of Knossos is concerned, it seems quite possible that the MM Ib buildings were cleared for the later palace to be built. The stratigraphy of this site, in addition, concerning earlier periods and the transition from the EBA to the MBA includes vat room deposit. Although some of the MMI architectural features are in a fragmentary form, Evans created a reconstruction of the first palace of Knossos.
You, my dearest fellows, may criticise the reliability of the evidence and produce further thoughts about this matter.
Yours faithfully
