    AS PKS noted, Caesar did drop those lovely little hints about his "divine right" - and surely had done so at least since his teens, when he spoke at the funeral of his aunt Julia and made a point of talking about her semi-divine Julian connections (and, hence, his own). But I wonder what that actually meant, in those days? As a house that had become rather diminished, was it Caesar's way of reclaiming some kind of status that exceeded some of the 'new men' coming into power? Did the mob have any of the mental connections we would have been someone having divine or semi-divine connections, or did it really matter to them, other than in status?

    I think we'd all agree that Caesar used each and every possible asset fate threw him, and this would be one, at least, that got him "name recognition."
