    PEOPLE REJECTED BOTH LEGES

After many strong debates on the matter, the people of Roma as said no to any changement to public offices limits, both Lex Sacrata and Lex Valeriana has been rejected by the Assembly.
Interviewed, Tribunus Plebis Marcus Pomptinus Lanutus has said:
“ The people has shown their will! We, the Tribuni, will oppose to any future attempt to change the limits on the public offices. As ever the word of the people is the final one.”

Remains the rift within the Collegium Tribunorum due to the veto opposed to Lucius Urgulanius Longinus that didn’t replied to his colleagues, preferring to remain silent.

    Cortona welcomes Consul Hibernicus
Once defeated the small group of rebels that occupied the ruins of Veii, Consul Patricus Curius Hibernicus moved north in the heart of Etruria.
The welcome he received at Cortona shown the city didn’t joined the rebellion, or they are trying to regain the trust of Roma.
Any information gathered and scouting report are indicating the rebels withdrawn to Pistoria. There Legiones VIII and XI are deployed after they liberated Pisae from the siege.
Further it seems that many not-Etrurians are involved in the rebellion. It is not yet clear what part certain Roman betrayers had in the rebellion, since it seems some Romans or ex-Romans has been seen along the rebellion chiefs and the commander of the rebels at Veii has been recognized as Licinus Marcianus a Knight of Men.

    Rustico conquers Naupactos
At last Cnaeus Fundanius Rustico has conquerred Naupactos, the Aetolian capital city, and the war in Achaia is finally over. But, basing on the mails exchanged between Consul Flaccus, Rustico and Philippus V of Macedonia, the area is not yet pacified. Unless a satisfactory new asset for Aetolia is found, it is possible a new conflict will start. We can think at it as a ‘question of sheeps’.

    Standstill in Mauretania
The decision of Consul Flaccus to do not deploy ships to support Commander Asiaticus campaing in Mauretania, has imposed a stop to operations. Asaticus has now to decide if attack at Saldae that is very defendable thank to the river and the mountains, or if try to break the enemy front south at Rapidum bridge. In both cases the lack of support from sea will weak his strenght.
Meanwhile Bocchus and Bogud gained further time to reinforce and maneuvre.

    Drusus to be broke?
Certain rumours are telling that caius Livius Drusus is to sell some of his properties to buy the fleet Consul Flaccus denied to his friend Asiaticus.
If Drusus will not found a way to obtain the fleet to support the war in Mauretania, he personally would be forced to expend a fortune to buy those ships. It is wishpered he will need more than 40,000 Danarii.
Many in Roma are wondering why Consul Flaccus is depriving two legiones of citizens from the support of the Navy.

    Maximus still in the valley
Quintus Fabius Maximus is still reported camped close to Bergidum. Gallaeci did not replied to the maneuvres Quintus Fabius did trying to force they to engage in a field battle.

    Sisenna liberated Gaza
The arrival of Cnaeus Ulpius Sisenna with Legio I made Zionists to lift the siege from Gaza and retire in their territory.
No news from Rhinocolura but it is supposed the garrison is still controlling the city. It is unknown if Aegyptian reinforcements has been sent to rescut the city.

    Slave revolt in Olisipo
A slave rebellion is reported from Olisipo countryside. While a large group of slaves was to be transferred to harbour to sail to Ostia for the next Slaves Market, a dozen of them was able to break the chains and to kill the guards. Then they liberated further slaves from several estates. Currently about 3,000 rebelling slaves are razing North-West from Olisipo.
8.3.2 - 50% of revenue from estates and factories in Olisipo for Martius DLXII.

    Plague in Aquitania
Plague is reported from Aquitania. It is unkown if it is due to the barbarians migration reported one month ago. Some groups of Aquitanians Gauls are trying to refuge in Gallia Narbonensis to escape from the plague.

    City News

Several pieces of rotten meat and dead animals, and large sewage stains, reached Roma floating in Tiber. Between so many filth a corpse has been found. He was a young male. Some rumours are he was swimming in Tiber while the poisoned waters made him to die. In whole Urbs people is fearing the air is poisoned since an huge stench spread up to Subura. Many patricians are leaving the Palatinus, moving to their eastes villas.

Apart this strange event, the whole Roma appear calm. The people seems satisfied for the outcomes of the Assembly vote. Those who abandoned Saxa Rubra and Ad Sextum to escape from Etrurians are now returning to their farms.

Only the question of debts is keeping the plebs unhappy. It seems many usurers are applying a very high interest on arrears. So many citizens of lower classes has been chained and are to loose their freedom to fall in slavery. Many are asking a lex to stops usurers from this new pratice they invented to avoid the leges who impose the maximum interest rate on loans.

It is not clear if Domitia voluntarry resigned herself to marry Cotta, or was the authoritas of Cordatus that persuaded her, or if the rumours in whole was a false. Actually Domitia is to marry Cotta by conferratio, the ritual that is for ever.

    Prodigia

Some clerics are suggesting the Pontifex Maximus orders Ludi Scenici are held in order to prevent the wrath of the heaven before the pestilence would broke.
(Ludi scenici = Scenic representations. The players were sent for from Etruria: there were no words, no mimetic action; they danced to the measures of the flute and practised graceful movements in Tuscan fashion. Introduced in Roma to end the pestilence that killed many people and, between they, Marcus Furius Camillus. About 380 BC.)
