His political career destroyed because he supported the Cherokee, he left Washington D. C. and headed west to Texas.
This was in protest of The Indian Removal Act (1830) of the Cherokee to Oklahoma on "The Trail of Tears".
My name, Cherokee Rose, comes from a flower the women saw as they walked. The rose is white,has a gold center which represents the gold taken from the Cherokee homeland, and seven leaves on each stem which symbolize the seven Cherokee clans who were forced to Oklahoma. The Cherokee Rose still grows along the route of the "Trail of Tears". It is the state flower of State of Georgia.
