Occasion:
Feast of Osiris (Wesir/Asar)
Date:
modern~ 27 October | ancient Egyptian equivalent~
11 Koiak
Location: Abydos
to Pokir to Thebes to Abydos
The
city of Abydos,
located between Akhet-Aten
and Thebes, is the start-off point for the yearly festival of
Osiris, celebrated (in historically accurate fashion) this day,
11 Koiak.
Osiris'
cult statue is carried out from his temple in Abydos to a special
ritual boat, escorted by priests. In honor of the AncientWorlds
Gold Launch, temple priests have agreed to adopt the Golden
Phoenix as their ritual boat, and continue the procession, carrying
the Osiris statue from Pokir to Thebes, where a grand midnight
banquet is held. By night, the statue of Osiris is escorted
back down the Nile, returning from Thebes to Abydos.
So, our celebration starts
in the City
of the Dead, the great necropolis of Abydos, where nobles
have erected cenotaphs, stelae in honor of this auspicious occasion.
Then, the yearly Passion
Play begins.
