Though a shrine to Demeter and Kore known as the Eleusinium was built on the Panathenaic Way below the Athenian Acropolis, the main sanctuary remained at Eleusis.

Come join the members of THE GREAT STOA as we walk the walk. Once a year, in the month of Boedromion (September/October), a great procession walked from Athens to Eleusis for the initiation ceremonies. All Greek-speaking people were eligible for initiation, including women, slaves, and foreigners. All seekers of wisdom and truth and members of the Ancient World are welcome to join us.

On the 16th of the month initiates will gather at the bay of Phaleron to purify themselves by bathing in the sea, taking with them sacrificial pigs sacred to Demeter.

At dawn on the morning of the 19th the procession will assemble here at the Eleusium and set off on the 25-kilometer walk to Eleusis.

Often it is difficult for me to post, help is greatly desired and appreciated. We will examine the Great Mysteries from a historical perspective.

The Greater Mysteries will be celebrated from the 15th of September to the 15 of October. This is one of the few fixed events in the reigious calendar of the ancient Greeks.

Tell one, tell all, all students of the mysteries and sincere seekers are welcome.

"There is no higher teaching than Truth"
