    Flavian Villa Rome

    Greetings Cousin.

I understand you have conquered Alexandria and are the toast of the town. Flavia Octavia and Claudia Procula send you greetings and say they look forward to hearing everything that happened in Alexandria when you return to Rome.

Flavia Octavia I fear is getting weaker everyday. She is not as spry as she was a year ago. She spends a lot of time sitting in the sun and reading messages from her many friends. She gets angry with me when I try to see to her comfort. She is ill tempered as ever and accuses me of prying into her affairs!

Claudia Procula is growing into a beautiful woman. I have given her a large German female slave to be her companion. I have instructed the slave to keep me informed on her doings and keep all men away from her. I am sure she will tell me only what Claudia Procula wants me to know! I have also hired the finest Greek teachers to see to her education. As I have no sons she will inherit my wealth and she needs to be able to oversee her inheritance. It seems like only yesterday that I found Claudia Procula abandoned on that street corner when she was about a week old. She is one of the best things that has happened to my life and I love the child very much.

I am sending you 100 golden auri to buy everything you think Flavia Octavia and Claudia Procula would like in Alexandria. Marcus Horatius Pulvillus a Centurion of mine who delivers this message will remain in Alexandria and bring back the presents when you are ready to send them.

When you come back to Rome I will acknowledge you as my cousin and part of the Falvi.

    I remain your kinsman.
