I know there are many historically inaccurate movies but i don't think that this should detract from films like Gladiator (in my Top Ten of all time) and Braveheart, which don't IMO claim to be accurate.
Spartacus and Ben Hur are personal favourites as classical movies go, with Troy and the TV movie of Caesar and the Civil War not far behind
On more modern wars, Gods and Generals is a highly accurate account of the opening of the American Civil War up to the death of Stonewall Jackson
The BBC TV production of I, Claudius is a great watch too
With the impending release of Alexander, there are several events in military history that I think deserve a large scale motion picture devoted to them.
- Hannibal's march, his battles in Italy and confrontation with Scipio Africanus could be awesome
- for me Napoleon and his conquest of Europe has never been properly converted to the big screen
I'm sure there are others but I can't think at the moment...
