    Hi all,

I'm new to this group, so please bear with me.

I'm currently studying ancient military history and have recently come across Rome's war with the Dacians. Although there is quite a bit of info regarding the Dacians with their dreaded falx's (thanks to Roman writers), I have not found anything on their close allies the Bastarnae apart from a few passing references. I'm a bit confused as they have been described as Celtic, Germanic, Dacian or of Sarmatian origin, or even a mixture of some or all of these groups. If anybody has got any further(and more accurate) info then that would be of great help.

I also came across the Venedi whilst reading Tacitus' Germania. Tacitus describes them as being different from the neighbouring German tribes, whilst some historians describe them as being an early incarnation of the slavs!

Again if anybody has any info that would be very useful to me.
