On August 2, 1100, William II (Rufus) was killed while hunting in the New Forest. He was the successor and favorite son of William the Conqueror. It is still not known whether his death was an accident or not, and it is even suspected that his younger brother Henry may have even had him killed in order to take the throne. Some historians have seen it as revenge on William's family because of his harsh forest laws imposed after the conquest. More information on William Rufus's death can be found here:
