This image has been floating around the engineering world since I was in college. No one is sure who started it, but they must have a little "Escher" in their family background. It is truly amazing how the eye can trick you into following the wrong line... and drawing the wrong conclusion. Like Marty's Gears in the Glass Globe, this is also an impossible construct!
