    The Seneca Indians (and likely the other Iroquois tribes) used porcupine quills and thick moose hairs as decorative items on "fabrics" (rawhide, cornhusks, etc.), prior to the arrival of Europeans and their trade beads. Both the quills and the moose hairs could be dyed to achieve decorative purposes.
