    From "Insights Guides: Philippines" pg. 21

    "Several million years ago, there wa a violent battle between the sea and sky. Their quarrel was started by a cunning bird who sowed discord in the hope of opening up dry land."

    "The sea vented its might at the sky, hurling huge walls of water at it, and the sky spat down islands and rocks to quell its crashing waves. Bombarded by the sheer number and weight of the islands and rocks, the sea was forced to admit defeat and retreat. Thus, the bird achieved its purpose and the Philippine archipelago was born."
