I have ALWAYS wanted to see this - has anyone? There are so many fantastic stories connected to Alfred the Great, I never could understand how Hollywood could miss out on dramatizing them. I always thought that the 1969 "Alfred the Great" was probably made because "Camelot," the musical (in which Hemmings played a thoroughly nasty Mordred) had been such a smash....rather like Gladiator, it spawned the oddest imitations. But - unlike Camelot - I wonder if they attempted to idealize Alfred, or to make him a thoroughly Anglo-Saxon king.
I personally always thought that Alfred was a major model for the "King Arthur" stories that developed in later centuries. He's one of the kings I'd give a lot to meet if time-travel worked!
