Walahfrid Strabo has retired to his secret cell in Reichenau [which surely must be somewhere near the famed falls...] where he is busy composing some more paeans in the manner of Solomon [Grundy I presume...] that you should keep both monkeys and peackocks in your court [I imagine some are already positing who is a monkey and who is a peacock! and nobody should have any doubts about WHO is the king! or should I say the queen?].
After all, he does have a LOT of work to do in order to flatter his abbot, tend his flock and nurture his garden while he works on his more frivolous poetry.
After all writing all of that tedious eulogistic and sycophantic tripe does tax one's mental facilities... and one's moral center certainly also to be perodically realigned after such a drastic wrenching from the golden mean!
I do wish, though, that he would tell us a bit more about his own teachers, Tatoo and Wettin... or was those the two that I saw a bit earlier with his velocipede?
Was he banished? or did he flee? Did he neglect the duties of his office? Or has he merely cosied up to the wrong side of the political bed?
