(This was originally entitled "A Poem for my Father" Peter Farb, 1969, but I think it fits well here)
First the ankles went, but the legs remained
Then the legs went, but the stomach endured
When the stomach went, there was still the nervous system
And when the nervous system went, there was still the brain.
Finally, the brain packed in, and there was only the soul of a man.
And when my soul left the building?
There were only my friends, who loved me regardless....
(c)P Farb 1971
