An Etruscan nobody needs a family no? Please help Lucius Licnius find his roots by helping me!
The Sempronae name for this branch of the family holds its roots in the distant past when Etruria was still an indipendant nation. Originally the family were the dominant gens of the Etruscan city state of Velathri(Volterra). In the fourth century BCE the family seems to have cemented an alliance with Rome. This alliance is as much due to marriage as to political reasons for the Roman "Sempronai" and the Etruscan "Licini Sempronae" have always been closely linked and both in commerce and friendship even before there was a Republic.
The first of the "Licini Sempronae" to gain fame was Caius Licinius Sempronius "Etruscas". In 298 BCE Scipio defeated a large Etruscan force at Volterra and this brave young man was decorated for his valour on the field of battle.
