    This is also known as the Water Festival, because the Thais believe water washes away bad luck (along with the dirt).

    Songkran Festival

    It lasts for three days starting April 13th (so, we missed it this year). Traditionally, people would pour scented water gently over their elders' hands, and present them with gifts, in order to promote unity. Ancestors and extended family are important in Thai culture.

    Nowadays, some Thais are turning this event into a street party, tossing buckets of water onto complete strangers.
