I always get muddled about Cato's immediate predecessors - I know he was half-brother to Servilia, but I'm completely confused as to just HOW. Plus, there was always the theory that his side of the family was very low-class, invading the very upper crusty Servilius clan. Finally, was it his GRANDFATHER that was Cato the Censor?

I also think it's fascinating to think that Cato the Censor, from everything I've ever read, is one of the most repugnant characters in Roman history - racist, sexist, hectoring, dominating, inflexible, convinced he was always right - and that his relative apparently considered that his was the pattern to follow!

Great quotes, Paullus . . . I had not remembered that one, but it's sooooooo Cato!
