I don't think I have ever had a problem with paypal. I have used it extensively and in conjuction with ebay.
The types of emails that are going around asking you to verify your account details with them are spam and unfortunately, paypal is the flavour (or target) of the month.
All of these types of emails should be deleted straight away and not answered. There are similar scams where you get nearly the same email but verifying bank account no's and passwords/PIN's. No bank (in Australia anyway) would ask for that type of information via email. Nor would they do a "mass" mailing of that sort.
What sucks people in, is that these emails really do look official looking and sometimes convey a "threat" in the email such as "if you don't do this, your account will be terminated", etc... So of course people fall for the trap.
Before answering any type of email like this, check it out with the institution first. Go to the main page. See if there are any warnings about the spam emails that are going around. Contact their IT department or talk to Senior Customer Service. Contact someone within the company to see if the email is legitimate. 99 times out of 100, it isn't.
